Day 14, Nicene Creed, 6th Line

So far in our reflections on the Creed, we’ve learned that God has made everything that exists. But now, we learn that there’s an exception for Jesus. Creator God didn’t make Jesus; He begot Jesus. In other words, Jesus is not a created being like the rest of us, not a creature, but an extension of Creator God Himself. And there is no other like Him.

I, like Father God, also only have one begotten son. He’s napping across from me in His swing as I write this, and the love that I have for this kid is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced in this life. I think this is why God explains who He is to us in terms of relationships—father and son, bridegroom and bride. In our human covenant relationships, we have the potential to experience a type of love that can help our souls understand who God is. We read in the Bible that God is Love, and we know that in order for love to exist, there must be a lover and a beloved. Within the Holy Trinity, Jesus is the beloved One.
