born of the Father before all ages.

Technically, there has never actually been a time Before Christ. He has always existed, which is why everything in the Old Testament points to His coming, and everything in the New Testament points back to the time He came, and forward to the next time He will come again. He exists outside of time, but entered into it for our sake. Among so many other things, Jesus is known as the Word of God, meaning God’s communication. So when God speaks creation into existence in Genesis 1, that’s actually Jesus present at the creation of the world.

Since John wrote about this best, I’ll let the first words of his Gospel carry the rest of today’s reflection.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God; all things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it (John 1:1-5).
