Day 13, Nicene Creed, 5th Line

Day 13, Nicene Creed, 5th Line

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,

As Christians, we believe in one God. However, that God is three persons. Some say this is proof that our faith is divinely inspired, because if we just made it up, it would make a lot more sense. Instead, it’s God trying to explain Himself to us, which is a challenge. Up to this point in the Creed, we’ve been focusing on the first Person in the Trinity—God the Father. Now, the Creed shifts focus to the second Person—God the Son. This is what we believe about Jesus Christ, and as our reflections on the Creed progress, I think this picture of the triune God will start to take shape a little more, especially when we get to the Holy Spirit.

I used to know a guy who sincerely believed he was on the same existential level as Jesus and Ghandi. But as Christians, we know that there are so many problems with this concept, right? How do we know that? Well, it’s in our Creed, for one thing. There is only one Lord Jesus Christ. No one is on the same level as Him, not even Ghandi whose actions did resemble those of Christ in several ways. And this is exactly why the Creed exists. Throughout the ages, so many people have tried to change Christianity, but they can’t actually do it, because we know what the faith is. We profess it all the time.
