Day 25, Nicene Creed, 17th Line

Day 25, Nicene Creed, 17th Line

he suffered death and was buried,

Before Jesus entered history, this probably would have been the last line of any reflection on a person's life. It would read, “He died, period. End of story. Roll credits.”

But it’s Jesus we’re talking about here! So we know it’s not over yet. We know what happens next. Still, lest we take it for granted, it’s important to take a moment to realize that there was a time for Jesus’ disciples when it seemed like the end, and all seemed lost. Jesus was dead. His sacred heart stopped beating, and as the Apostle’s Creed points out, He descended into hell. Seems pretty final and hopeless.

Sometimes, we too experience situations where all seems lost as if the sun may never rise again. In these moments, something in us dies and we feel like things will never be the same again.

But wait! Notice how today’s line ends in a comma, not a period. We’ve got an and coming our way very soon.
